At the Veterans Day ceremony at the Waynesburg American Legion Post 330 Sunday, Benton Frazier dedicated his Boy Scout Eagle Service Project.

Frazier’s project is a large box built for the purpose of depositing retired and tattered American Flags. The flags will be gathered by the legion and properly retired at the legion’s annual Flag Day celebration June 14.

The box is located at the rear entrance to the American Legion Post on High Street across from Fox Ford Mercury. The public is encouraged to bring their torn or worn American Flags to the legion and place them in the box for proper disposal.

Frazier, 17, is a son of John and Drema Frazier of Waynesburg. He has been in the scouting program since first grade and is now a senior at Waynesburg Central High School. The project is a requirement to complete his Eagle Scout award, the highest award a boy can receive in the Scouts.

Frazier has to successfully pass a Board of Review to finish his Eagle Scout requirements.

Frazier’s project took several days to build and finish. He got the idea from other sites that used old mailboxes as a receptacle. He wanted his to be different and settled on wood as the construction materials.

Frazier thanked United Bank in Morgantown for donating the dedication plaque. He also thanked Wayne Lumber Company, 84 Lumber of Waynesburg, members of Troop 1280 of Waynesburg and Kevin Lemley, who transported supplies and the finished project.
