Man guilty of theft

1 min read

WAYNESBURG – A Nemacolin man was found guilty Tuesday by a Greene County jury of stealing a filled 5-gallon gasoline can from a vehicle in Carmichaels.

Jamie Allen Carter, 36, of 334 Grant St., was found guilty of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property at a trial before Judge Farley Toothman.

Carter stole a gas can from a vehicle owned by Craig Watters, which was parked Sept. 7 at a house at 320 River Lane. Watters and Gary Varesko were working at the back of the house when Carter approached and asked about docking a boat at the nearby Jessop Boat Club.

Shortly after he left, Watters discovered the can was missing from his vehicle. Varesko was able to identify the man who had asked about the boat club as Carter. Cumberland police went to where Carter was living and found the can.

Carter will be sentenced on the charges following the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
