McDonald man arrested after causing disturbance
A McDonald man was arrested after he allegedly shoved a borough police officer and a woman at an apartment Thursday night.
Shaheem J. Solomon, 29, of 103 W. Lincoln Ave., Apt. 11, is accused of causing a disturbance in his apartment building, forcing his way into another apartment at 103 W. Lincoln just before 11 p.m.
When police arrived, they could hear someone yelling from inside about God and knives. Police saw Solomon on the second floor near a laundry room. They said he was breathing heavily, holding two knives and was in a combative stance.
Solomon dropped the knives and started running toward another apartment in the building, police said, then tried to break into the apartment by forcing his shoulder into the door.
Jessica Mastic heard the commotion outside her apartment and opened the door to see what was going on, police said. Solomon allegedly shoved her to the floor and entered her apartment without permission. He then got into a physical altercation with Mastic and Akili Sutton, police said.
Police said they tried to enter Mastic’s apartment but were unable to because Solomon was blocking the door. The door was not completely closed, so Sgt. Dennis Ahlborn was able to put his arm inside the apartment and spray Solomon with pepper spray. The sergeant was then able to enter the apartment.
Police said Solomon pushed Ahlborn, causing the officer to lose his balance. When the sergeant tried to place Solomon under arrest, the McDonald man began thrashing around and again pushed the officer, according to police.
Solomon fell down the steps and then ran out of the apartment building, but he was quickly taken into custody by Cecil Township police.
While in a holding cell at the McDonald police station, Solomon reportedly told police, “I messed up. I never should have done what I did.”
Solomon was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis on charges of burglary, aggravated assault on a police officer, criminal trespass, simple assault, harassment, public drunkenness and resisting arrest. He was placed in the Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for April 15 before District Judge Valarie Costanzo.
