A 6-year-old girl died yesterday from injuries suffered in a crash Friday in Amwell Township.

Alyssa Long of Washington was pronounced dead about 5:40 p.m. Saturday at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. Her cause of death was attributed to head injuries.

According to state police in Washington, Christy Long, 37, was traveling south on Shipe Run Road shortly after 2 p.m. when her sport-utility vehicle failed to negotiate a sharp downhill curve and left the road.

Long’s Ford Expedition crossed a residential driveway and traveled downhill across a yard before the left side of the SUV struck a tree. Police said the right side of the vehicle sustained additional damage before coming to a stop.

Alyssa Long was flown by helicopter to Children’s Hospital while Christy Long and the other girl, 13, were taken to an area hospital.
