Reassessment looms: State Supreme Court won’t hear Washington County case

1 min read

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled Tuesday it would not hear Washington County’s last-ditch appeal to avoid a property reassessment.

Susan Mondik Key, the attorney for the Washington and McGuffey school districts, which have seeking the reassessment for the past five years, said, “We were very confident they would not take the appeal.

“It’s either court-ordered or a consent decree. There’s no hybrid type of order, and there’s no in-between. Judge (Debbie) O’Dell Seneca makes it clear on the transcripts it was always a consent decree.

“We’ve asked for attorney’s fees and that they be held in contempt for failing to begin the reassessment.”

A contempt hearing is scheduled for June 4 in Washington County Court.

Washington County Commission Chairman Larry Maggi could not immediately be reached for comment.

The commissioners signed a consent decree in November 2008 acknowledging that the county’s last reassessment took effect in 1981.
