Southeast Greene plans registration for kindergarten
Southeastern Greene School District will hold kindergarten and first-grade registration in May at Bobtown Elementary School.
The registration will be by appointment only and will take place May 1, 2 and 3. To schedule an appointment, call 724-839-7241.
Each child must be 5 years old before Sept. 1 to be eligible for kindergarten, and a child must be 6 years old before the same date to enter first grade. Parents must bring a state birth certificate to show proof of age. A hospital birth certificate will not be accepted.
Parents also should bring current immunization records, proof of identification, proof of residency and custody/guardian documents, if applicable. These documents are required at the time of the appointment.
The following immunizations must be presented to the school:
• Four doses of tetanus with one dose on or after the child’s fourth birthday
• Four doses of diphtheria with one dose on or after the child’s fourth birthday
• Three doses polio vaccine
• Two doses of measles
• Two doses of mumps
• One dose of rubella, also called German measles
• Three doses of hepatitis B
• Two doses of varicella, also called chickenpox
If a child cannot receive these shots because of health reasons, a certificate from a physician or clinic is required. If a child cannot receive these shots for religious reasons, the parent or guardian must sign a form. All immunizations must be completed before starting school.
The school nurse and clerical staff will be available to assist parents with registration and in any transition program.
At the time of registration, each child will participate in a screening assessment by district staff.
School district administrators stress the importance of the registration because entrance regulations require parents to enroll their child before he or she begins attending school.
