Bethel Park man facing DUI charges
A Bethel Park man faces charges from two different police agencies after a minor crash Saturday afternoon.
Joseph L. Toner, 35, faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol from state police and failure to exchange information and leaving the scene of a crash to be filed by North Strabane police.
North Strabane police received a call about 1 p.m. of a hit-and-run crash on Route 19 southbound at McClelland Road.
“It was a rear-end crash with not a hard impact,” said township police Sgt. David Richards. “The driver initially stopped but, when the other driver got out, decided to take off up McClelland.”
Police identified Toner as the fleeing driver who struck a vehicle driven by Nicole Roser of Pittsburgh.
Richards said it appears Toner entered Interstate 79 southbound at the entrance ramp off Weavertown Road. Police from Chartiers and South Strabane townships assisted after Toner reportedly got off I-79 at the Racetrack Road exit.
State police later received reports of a vehicle, matching Toner’s, being driven erratically on Interstate 70. Troopers were informed the vehicle may have been involved in a hit-and-run in North Strabane.
Toner was stopped by state police off the Taylorstown exit of I-70 in a parking lot at 55 E. Buffalo Church Road, Buffalo Township, about 12 miles from where he would have gotten on the highway in North Strabane.
State police said Toner appeared intoxicated. Blood was drawn to determine his alcohol level.
