New kitchen in the works at jail
WAYNESBURG – The Greene County Prison Board was informed Wednesday an arthictect is preparing a schematic drawing for a new kitchen at the county jail, forming the basis for bidding specifications.
Chief Clerk Jeff Marshall said the project should be ready to bid by mid-May.
The new kitchen will be attached to the exising prison facility, and it will be much larger than the one now being used at the Corner Cupboard Food Bank. Marshall said the reason the county jail needs the new kitchen is that the prison’s lease with the food bank was not renewed.
Money from the county’s general fund budget, along with Act 13 funds (if they qualify) will be used to pay for the project.
“And maybe we will use some of that money Fayette County is paying us to house their prisoners,” Marshall quipped.
Warden Harry Gillispie reported Fayette County paid $64,250 for March inmate housing costs.
