A traffic stop Wednesday night by East Bethlehem Township police in the 300 block of Front Street in Fredericktown ended in the arrest of two men.

Arrested were Ronald Johnson, 28, of 7 Campbell St., Avella, and Reginald Davis, 25, of 810 Seventh St., Marianna.

Officer William Dennison was concluding a traffic stop when he spotted a vehicle with tint on the windows. The officer conducted a traffic stop and determined the registration had expired.

None of the three people in the car, including Davis, the driver, rear-seat passenger Johnson, and another man in the front seat, had a driver’s license.

While Dennison was checking the occupants’ information with an emergency dispatcher, he could see Davis making movements inside the vehicle. The officer asked for assistance from West Brownsville police. Davis was asked to get out of the vehicle so he could be searched. Police found a plastic bag containing suspected cocaine in the pocket of his pants.

Police called the owner of the vehicle, who gave police permission to search it. Police Chief Mark Pompe brought his dog, Thor, and the dog alerted to drugs in the vehicle. A scale with cocaine residue was found inside the car.

When Pompe tried to take Johnson into custody, he pushed away and ran north on Front. Dennison and West Brownsville police chased him to a nearby business, where he was apprehended after an officer used a Taser.

Both men were arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka. Johnson, who is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, flight to avoid apprehension, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, was placed in the Washington County jail on $10,000 bond. Davis, who is charged with possession of cocaine and paraphernalia, was placed in jail on $5,000 bond.
