Granges announce activities
East Franklin Grange of Waynesburg and New Freedom Grange of Wind Ridge have chartered a bus to the Washington Symphony Orchestra’s country music performance May 4 at Trinity High School. Cost is $15 per person for grange members and $25 for nonmembers. The price includes transportation and the concert ticket.
The bus will leave East Franklin Grange at 5 p.m. and stop for dinner at Ponderosa Steak House in Washington prior to the concert. A buffet dinner is about $14 per person, and each individual must pay for his or her own meal. The symphony’s board of directors offers refreshments at the concert and raffles off a variety of gift baskets. Attendees may purchase chances on baskets prior to the concert or during intermission. The group will be back in Waynesburg by 11 p.m.

• East Franklin will also host an indoor flea market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the grange hall to raise funds for the grange. New Freedom Grange members will be on hand to sell hand-crafted items, decorative items and household goods. Anyone who wishes to rent a table to sell items for the event may contact Bonnie Smouse.
Members of both granges will be at East Franklin before dawn to begin the apple-butter-making process. The apple butter is cooked outdoors in a copper kettle over a wood fire and the finished product will be for sale to the general public. Proceeds benefit East Franklin Grange.
• As a public service activity, grange members will be picking up litter along Route 21 near Graysville from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Motorists are asked to drive carefully when in the area and to watch for adults and youth members of the cleanup crew, who will be wearing bright yellow vests. The vests were donated to the grange by Dave Cipoletti, owner of Graysville Store.
