Standoff leads to arrest
A Jefferson man was arrested early Friday after he barricaded himself in the bedroom of his home and fired several shots through the bedroom door while police were in the next room.
Joseph Daniel Vincent, 26, of 100 First St., was charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, a felony, and misdemeanor charges of terroristic threats, reckless endangering another person, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
State police were called to Vincent’s home at 12:30 a.m. for an armed man barricaded inside.
Troopers Christopher Babirad and Michael Hertig entered the home and spoke to Vincent, who was in the bedroom and refused to come out, according to the criminal complaint.
While talking to the troopers, Vincent told them he was going to shoot through the bedroom door at them. He shot one round and a few seconds later fired three more rounds.
Both troopers and another person, Paul Mayer, were in the next room, in “very close proximity” to Vincent, the complaint said. Police said Vincent was armed with a.380-caliber Baikal pistol.
Vincent was taken into custody. While at the Waynesburg barracks, he asked for medical treatment. While being taken to the hospital, Vincent became angry and refused to comply with commands. Police said they had to use reasonable force to take him to the ground and handcuff him.
Vincent was arraigned before District Judge Glenn Bates and placed in the Greene County jail on $40,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. April 29.
