State police will conduct sobriety checkpoints in Greene County this week. Officers from the Waynesburg barracks will be conducting the checkpoints to detect and arrest individuals who are impaired by alcohol or drugs.
Southwestern Water Authority will flush hydrants in Amwell, Morgan, Washington and Jefferson townships along with Clarksville Borough this week. Customers may experience a temporary drop in pressure, loss of pressure or discolored water.
East Franklin Grange 1709 will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the grange hall. Final reservations will be accepted for the Washington Symphony Orchestra trip May 4. Plans for the chicken roast by Big Jim May 11 will be announced. The literary program will be in charge of Dr. LonnieBrewster.
A creamed chicken and biscuit dinner will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Clarksville Christian Church, 330 Market Street. The menu will include creamed chicken, mashed potatoes, a vegetable, cole slaw and dessert. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. Takeout is available. A community dinner will be held in the social room of Rogersville United Methodist Church from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday. The meal will be meatloaf, parsley potatoes, corn, applesauce, dessert and beverages. Dinner is free, and donations are accepted. Carryout available. Everyone is welcome. Community Sewing Circle of Time will meet Friday for an all-day meeting in the social room of Union Valley United Methodist Church. Betsy Day will be hostess and program leader. Word for roll call is “world.”
Cornerstone Ministry Center will hold a senior citizen chili cook-off from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the camp on Willis Road, Jefferson. Ten competitors are being sought to prepare chili at their home in crock pots to bring to the camp for judging. The public is welcome. A donation of $3 is requested and to register for the competition or to receive directions or transportation to the camp, call 714-966-9157.
Country music will be featured from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the New Freeport fire hall. Bands scheduled to appear are New Nashville North and Sam Longwell. Admission is $3, and the event is sponsored by the ladies auxiliary.
Aleppo Township will hold cleanup days from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 3-6. Items that will not be accepted are wood, paint, tires, household garbage and electronics.
Springhill Township will hold its cleanup days from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 3 and 4. Dumpsters will be at the former community building on Laurel Run Road. Tires, household garbage and large quantities of wood will not be accepted.
United Methodist Women for Bobtown Methodist Church will hold its annual spring rummage sale at the Civic Club hall May 2 and 3. The sale will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 2 and 9 a.m. until noon May 3. A full lunch menu will be available May 2. Those donating items for the lunch are asked to have them at the hall no later than 8 a.m.
Braddock Cemetery Association, near Graysville, will hold its annual spring meeting at 10 a.m. May 11 in the cemetery building. Anyone with winter grave decorations that they would like to keep are asked to remove them by May 4. All interested persons are invited to attend the meeting.
