Venetia man shot at music store

2 min read

Investigators are trying to determine what prompted a Venetia man to attack two people at a Bethel Park business Saturday before one of them shot him to death.

Andrew M. Moore, 31, died at the scene from his injuries about noon, according to the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office.

Bethel Park police Sgt. Rob Stiglich said Moore entered Armen’s House of Music at 5920 Library Road before leaving a few minutes later. When he returned shortly before noon, Moore was carrying a blunt instrument and attacked the business owner’s wife, Stiglich said.

When he then tried to stab or slash the business owner with a sharp object, the owner shot Moore with a handgun, police said. Moore died at the scene before police arrived, Stiglich said.

“From what we gather, (the business owner) was defending himself and his wife,” Stiglich said.

They suffered unspecified injuries and were taken to a Pittsburgh area hospital for treatment, police said. Their conditions were not released Sunday night, but police expected them to recover.

Investigators are not sure what prompted the attack, but do not think robbery was a motive. The business owners told police they had never met Moore before he entered their shop Saturday morning. No one else was inside the shop at the time of the attack.

An autopsy on Moore was planned for Monday morning. Police said they want to conduct toxicology tests to see if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the attack.

Allegheny County homicide detectives are assisting Bethel Park police with the investigation.
