Pickup that went off Pittsburgh ramp had defective brakes

1 min read

PITTSBURGH (AP) – A Western Pennsylvania accident investigator says a pickup truck that plunged off an overpass to a downtown Pittsburgh street last week had defective brakes.

Four people were injured in the July 23 accident near Allegheny County jail.

The driver told investigators that the brakes failed, and a Pittsburgh police spokeswoman said an investigation confirmed that the brakes were defective.

Police said the truck dropped from the Liberty Bridge ramp and landed on Second Avenue about 40 feet below.

One person was seriously injured and three others had minor injuries.
