Bowlby library adds three new databases

2 min read

WAYNESBUG – Eva K. Bowlby Public Library has recently added three additional databases for reading and language learning on its website.

In addition to OverDrive online offerings, the library is offering another free eBook site called Freading. Registered cardholders at Bowlby can download eBooks for free. Freading currently holds about 20,000 titles and is always adding more to its collection.

Instead of having five downloads, Freading uses tokens as virtual currency for patrons to exchange for downloads. There are three different token costs of a book, downloads cost 4, 2 or 1 token depending on the value assigned by the publisher. In general, the token value is based on how new or popular a book is. Unused tokens roll over each week. Many electronic devices can access Freading, along with a free account of Adobe Digital Editions software.

The Bowlby Library has also added a new online language learning database called Rocket Languages. This database offers interactive audio lessons and culture lessons. These give the patron a balanced approach to learning a new language. Patrons can add their own individualized notes on their account, save vocabulary words, and practice pronunciation. The Master Games are a great way to have fun while learning as well.

The third newest offering by the library can be accessed through Pennsylvania’s online resource site, the POWER Library. This database is called Bookflix, an online e-reading program from Scholastic that combines classic fictional storybooks with similarly themed nonfiction e-books to make reading more engaging for children ages three to eight.

BookFlix pairs award-winning animated storybooks based on some of the best-selling children’s picture books of all time produced by Weston Woods with related nonfiction e-books from Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education, and media company. Scholastic BookFlix offers 105 multi-media fiction-nonfiction pairs, of which more than 30 are available in Spanish. Pairings include: Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type with Let’s Visit a Dairy Farm; The Snowy Day with Snowy Weather Days; and Happy Birthday Moon with The Moon. With additional pairings set for release in the future, BookFlix will continue to provide fresh content to early readers.

All databases offered by the Bowlby Public Library can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with a valid library card, through our website at www.evakbowlby.org.
