Three Canonsburg men were taken to a Pittsburgh hospital Wednesday night after their pickup truck hit a tree on Ridge Avenue in Canonsburg before crashing into several grave markers in St. Patrick Cemetery.

When Canonsburg police arrived on the scene of the 9:40 p.m. crash, they found two men sitting on the ground and a third walking near the crashed truck with Texas registration.

The driver was identified as 26-year-old Victor Perez. Brolan Isaac Gentry, 23, told Canonsburg police he was sitting in the front seat, while Angel Moises Perez, 24, was in the rear seat. All three reside at an home on Ketchum Drive.

Police said they could smell alcohol on Victor Perez and Gentry, and both appeared visibly intoxicated. Before police could observe him, Angel Perez had been placed in the ambulance for transport to a landing zone, so he could be flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was listed in fair condition Thursday afternoon.

Gentry told police the three had just left McGrogan’s on East Pike Street in Canonsburg and were headed home. No one could recall what happened.

A witness told police that he was driving on Ridge when he saw the truck stuck in the cemetery and several people trying to push it off the grave markers. Police said several headstones were knocked over and damaged.

Police determined that Victor Perez had been driving north on Ridge when he hit a tree near the western side of the road. Following the fluid trail left by the truck, police said it appears the vehicle was backed down Ridge and into the cemetery.

Victor Perez and Gentry were both taken to Canonsburg General Hospital and transferred to Allegheny General. Gentry was in fair condition Thursday, but Victor Perez was no longer at the hospital.

Police said blood was drawn from Victor Perez to determine his alcohol level. He faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and damage to property, police said.
