It’s that time of year again. The Washington County Fair kicks off Saturday and continues through Aug. 17. While visitors will still find their usual fair favorites this year, they can also look forward to new additions from the 2013 fair board.

Daily admission is $9, but the price is $6 a person Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. Seniors 62 and over get in free Monday and children 12 and under get in free until 4 p.m. Aug. 16. Admission includes shows, entertainment, a petting zoo, free parking and rides. Rides open at 2 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and operate from 1 to 11 p.m. all other days, weather permitting.

“We’re hoping for great weather to bring lots of people,” fair board secretary Nadene Gardner said. “We really have something for everyone.”

Gardner said this year, the fair added a Bisquick Family Favorites Recipe Contest. Agnew Communications approached the board with the Bisquick idea, and fair officials said it would be a good addition.

“It’s really interesting to see the (food) contests. You can’t imagine some of the things they bring in,” Gardner said. “Especially Spam.”

Besides Bisquick, the fair also hosts a Spam contest, a chocolate cake baking contest, an apple pie contest, an angel food cake contest and a yeast baking contest.

Gardner said people should also look for Colt Ford’s performance Saturday night, an oldies performance Sunday and the monster truck show and demolition derbies. The monster truck show will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, and the school bus demolition derby will be held 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The fair begins 9 a.m. Saturday with a lawn and garden tractor pull and will also feature the fair queen contest at 7 p.m. The winner will participate in the state fair queen contest held in January in Hershey.

The fair will feature the Doo Wop Oldies Spectacular at 7:30 p.m. and Zambelli fireworks at 9:45 p.m. Sunday. Other events to watch out for during the week include senior high school band performances at 6 p.m. Wednesday and the school bus demolition derby at 8 p.m. The professional rodeo will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday and local drumming sensation Avery Molek will be performing at 7 p.m. Friday.
