Smithfield man charged with assault

Cumberland Township police officers charged a Smithfield man with physically assaulting a woman.
Zachary Edward Pringle, 30, of 501 Pringle St., was taken into custody Friday at a residence in Nemacolin.
Police said they were dispatched to investigate a fight at 213 Bliss Avenue. When officers arrived on scene, sounds of yelling, screaming and banging were coming from the home, according to a police complaint filed before Greene County Magisterial District Judge Lee Watson.
Police said they observed an individual through a window attempting to ram open a door with his shoulder and yelling, “stop and get off of her.” Officers said they entered the residence and saw Pringle straddling a female, later identified as Shelby Henderson, with his right hand in a fist and left hand holding onto her. Pringle eventually responded to an officer’s request to get off of Henderson but then resisted arrest, the complaint said.
Pringle allegedly told police that he was drinking and teasing Henderson about her cooking dinner and it caused an argument between them. Pringle told police Henderson said she wanted to punch him and he told her to go ahead. Police said he further claimed Henderson punched him and slapped him a couple of times and they somehow ended up going to the ground. Police said Pringle told them they went into the residence and he took her into a bedroom and locked a door so she couldn’t leave. Then he allegedly pushed her onto the bed by her chest, fell down on top of her, straddled her and threatened to punch her teeth down her throat if she hit him again.
Police said it was at this point that they arrived on the scene as Pringle’s roommate, Mikkeal Carrilo, knocked in the door in an effort to stop Pringle.
Pringle is charged with terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another, resisting arrest, simple assault, harassment, public drunkenness, and disorderly conduct engaging in a fight.
A preliminary hearing is set for 3 p.m. Wednesday before Watson. Pringle is free on a $2,500 straight cash bond.
