Defense: Pa. man ‘drugged out’ during slaying

1 min read

ALLENTOWN (AP) – An eastern Pennsylvania defense attorney says his client was drunk and “drugged out” when he killed a woman whose body was found in a wooded area off a major highway last year.

Trial opened Tuesday in Lehigh County Court for 21-year-old Jonathan Nunez of Allentown in the July 2012 death of 20-year-old Kimberly Cardona of Whitehall Township.

Prosecutors are seeking a first-degree murder conviction against Nunez, who had a girlfriend but was seeing Cardona on the side.

The (Easton) Express-Times said defense attorney Glennis Clark is seeking a third-degree conviction, which carries a maximum 40-year term rather than life.

Clark said Nunez’s actions stemmed from frustration due to a fight with his girlfriend coupled with booze and drugs. He said his client described it as “an out-of-body experience.”
