Donora police arrest 2 on drug charges
Two men were arrested by Donora police Monday after 497 stamps bags of heroin were found in a car during a traffic stop for a burned-out rear brake light, according to an affidavit filed in the office of District Judge James Ellis.
Nathan Charles Cameron, 22, of 65 Delsandro Drive, Donora, and Shaun Christopher Kovacs, 25, of 320 Henry St., Belle Vernon, were each charged with possession with the intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Kovacs and Cameron were arraigned before Ellis at 8 p.m. Monday and were placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond.
A back-seat passenger in the car initially gave a false name of Ricky Fine, but was later identified as Frank Spahr, no age or address given. Spahr was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant through Washington County adult probation and was taken to jail on the warrant, police said.
Donora police were monitoring traffic in the 1300 block of Marelda Avenue at 5:08 p.m. Monday, when an officer noticed a burned-out rear brake light and stopped the vehicle. Kovacs was driving with Cameron in the front passenger seat, police said.
Kovacs gave permission for the car to be searched and police found a razor blade in the center dash compartment. In the trunk, police found a black zipped first aid kit with 10 bricks of packaged heroin inside. One of the bricks was opened and police said three stamp bags of heroin were missing.
Kovacs and Cameron both denied knowing about the heroin.
