Official accuses Pa. casino of racism
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Officials at the Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh are set to meet with a black city councilwoman who has fielded claims of racism from constituents.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said Councilwoman Amanda Green Hawkins sent a letter to the casino’s general manager, asking him to explain why events aimed at black customers have allegedly been canceled, ended prematurely or charged more than other customers.
She contends a black motorcycle club’s event was shut down early and that a black college fraternity was charged more than other groups to use the casino’s ballroom for an event.
Casino spokesman Jack Horner said they’ve already scheduled a personal meeting between Hawkins and casino general manager Craig Clark “to address any misunderstanding, and to correct the record.”
