Volunteers needed for boards of elections

2 min read

The Washington County elections office is seeking residents of Amwell Township and Canonsburg who are willing to serve Nov. 5 on local elections boards at the Amwell 2 and Canonsburg 1-4 precincts, where entire complements have resigned.

Each precinct needs a judge of elections and two inspectors, each of whom chooses a clerk. One clerk in Amwell may be willing to return, said Larry Spahr, Washington County elections director.

In Amwell 2, voters head to the fire department social hall, 638 Amity Ridge Road, while in Canonsburg 1-4, the Election Day destination is First Street Elementary School. Those interested in filling the vacancies should live within the precinct, but it is also permissible to have members living elsewhere in the municipality.

Call Spahr for more information at 724-228-6750. Election board members earn about $100 for working a full shift, which lasts from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The person returning voting machines, memory cards, poll books and printers to Washington earns an additional $20, plus mileage for the trip from the polling place.

Spahr said he hopes to have boards in place for training in the use of Washington County’s electronic poll books, which is scheduled for 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6; Monday, Sept. 9; and Friday, Sept. 13; 1:30 to 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16; and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17.
