Pittsburgh man to trial in hot dog shop shooting
PITTSBURGH – A Pittsburgh man has been ordered to stand trial on homicide and other charges in the fatal shooting outside a popular late-night eatery.
Blaine Jones, the attorney for 22-year-old Isiah Smith, maintains his client was defending himself. But police and prosecutors repeated Friday that surveillance video shows the victim, 24-year-old Zachary Sheridan, walking or running away outside the Original Hot Dog Shop and being shot in the back.
Still, Jones says Sheridan twice punched Smith before that, leaving his client with a concussion.
But Sheridan’s friends contend that happened only after Smith waived a gun and made threats when the two groups began fighting. That began when Sheridan’s group made some remarks to a woman Smith knew.
Smith remains jailed without bond in the shooting, which occurred about 3:30 a.m. Aug. 3.
