Third monument erected

1 min read

CONNELLSVILLE – A Southwestern Pennsylvania community group has erected a third Ten Commandments monument in the wake of a lawsuit by an atheists’ group challenging a similar monument on public school grounds.

Thou Shalt Not Move was formed by a local businessman and a pastor after the Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation sued to remove a monument at Connellsville Area School District. That federal lawsuit is still pending.

The group raised enough money by selling Ten Commandments yard signs to buy 14 granite monuments it intends to place at various sites in and around the community about 35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

The first was erected in front of a fraternal club in June. Sunday’s was placed in front of the Juniata United Methodist Church in nearby Dunbar Township. A different church got a monument last month.
