Central Greene School Board grants tenure
WAYNESBURG – Central Greene School Board granted tenure to nine teachers Tuesday. Eight elementary teachers and one high school teacher were on the list, which included Haddie Behm, Amy Caldwell, Thomas Diamond, Tracy Echegaray, Kelly Kolar, Brittany McIntire, Jessica Moore, Angela Taylor and Nichole Trollman.
In other personnel related matters, the board hired Erin Erjavek as a long-term substitute second grade teacher at Waynesburg Central Elementary School.
Charlotte Hitt was hired as a cashier in the elementary and high schools after Amanda Yost declined a recall from furlough to the position.
The board accepted the recommendation of the administration to make adjustments to the 2013-14 district calendar. There will be a two-hour delay March 27, rather than the scheduled two-hour early dismissal. There will be a two-hour early dismissal May 8, rather than the scheduled two-hour delay.
A payment of $24,732 was approved for Waller Corp. for work on the press box at the Raider Field of Pride. The press box project is on task and will be completed in time for the first home football game, according to Superintendent Brian Uplinger. The board accepted the low bid of $99,400 at its May meeting from Waller to construct the new press box.
The funding for the project is primarily coming from the Raider Athletic Organization. Money not raised by the organization will be covered by the capital project fund.
Uplinger said the board approval of a service learning program for senior nursing students at Waynesburg University will be implemented at Margaret Bell Miller Middle School, which will basically be a job shadowing experience for the students. They will follow the district nurses at the middle school and this may be expanded to the other schools in the future.
Nine students from Waynesburg University and eight from West Virginia University were approved as student teachers for the 2013-14 school year. Additionally, a list of 17 Waynesburg University students was accepted by the board to take part in the kindergarten and first grade field experience at the elementary center for the 2013-14 school year.
Uplinger told the board anyone who does not have clearances in-hand will not be permitted to come into the school building.
Under athletic activities, the board approved the creation of a Waynesburg Central High School cross country boosters organization and approved Jillian McGowan as the Margaret Bell Miller cheerleading sponsor for the upcoming school year, effective immediately.
In other business, the administration noted the wall being constructed outside of Margaret Bell Miller Middle School will not be completed in time for the first day of classes for the new year. The area will be cordoned off for student safety.
