Fish for free at Dutch Fork Lake

2 min read

Adults and children can fish for free and without a license from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 8 at Dutch Fork Lake, between Claysville and West Alexander.

The family fishing program called “Take Me Fishing” is sponsored by the state Fish and Boat Commission in partnership with the Buffalo Creek Watershed Association.

Participants should meet in the parking lot to learn fishing skills such as knot-tying, casting, baiting a hook and removing a fish from a hook. The Fish and Boat Commission will be providing equipment and bait for those who do not have their own.

Space is limited, so advance registration can be completed at www.fishandboat.com/calendar.htm. Those without internet access can call Mandy Smith at 814-443-9841 to register between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday by the Sept. 4 deadline.

Dutch Fork Lake is in Donegal Township. From Interstate 70, take Exit 6, Claysville, to Route 40, travel 2.7 miles west toward West Alexander and turn onto Lake Road. Proceed approximately 1.7 miles to the large parking area on the right.

The mission of the Buffalo Creek Watershed Association is to preserve the ecological diversity, natural resources, and wildlife, plant and floral habitat within the Buffalo Creek Watershed for the current and future health and economic benefit of all.
