Team USA duties trump jury duty for Pens’ Bylsma

1 min read

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Pittsburgh Penguins coach Dan Bylsma was excused from jury duty in two separate trials because of concerns he might miss a Team USA Hockey Camp scheduled this weekend in Washington, D.C.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports Bylsma, who will coach Team USA at the Winter Olympics in Sochi in February, was summoned for jury duty Monday in Allegheny County. Pittsburgh is the county’s seat.

Bylsma was considered for duty in a homicide trial and a drug case, but was excused over concerns those trials could last more than a couple of days.

Bylsma tells the newspaper he was “very interested in being part of the process” of jury selection – but also says the weekend camp will be the only time he can see his Team USA players before February.
