Police: Shop owner was killed by son
NEW CASTLE (AP) – A Western Pennsylvania man has been jailed on charges he fatally shot his father, a doughnut shop owner, then tried to hide the body. Online court records don’t list an attorney for 28-year-old Michael Burrelli, who allegedly shot 52-year-old Charles Burrell in a warehouse in Union Township sometime overnight Wednesday into Thursday.
Police say the men got into a fistfight over cellphone usage and the younger man shot his father seven times after being knocked to the ground.
Police say Michael Burrelli used a hydraulic hoist to lift his father’s body into a metal bin, which he loaded into a Jeep and planned to dispose of the body in a state park.
Police found the body in the Jeep on Thursday before that could occur.
Union Township is about 45 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
