Man won’t face death penalty in Pa. woman’s death

YORK (AP) – Prosecutors won’t seek the death penalty against a formerly homeless man charged with killing a woman who let him stay at her central Pennsylvania home.

The decomposing body of 57-year-old Sandra Mulder was found June 2 in her York County home, her hands and legs bound with pink duct tape.

Thirty-three-year-old Bryan Brackbill Jr. was arrested in Missouri a day later, when highway patrol officers using an automated license plate scanner spotted Brackbill driving Mulder’s car.

Brackbill pleaded not guilty and was formally arraigned Tuesday. A pretrial conference in his case was set for Oct. 22.

The York Dispatch reports chief deputy prosecutor David Sunday said he will not seek the death penalty.

Investigators say Brackbill was homeless when he and his girlfriend moved in with Mulder.
