Police file charges for timber theft
Southwest Regional Police filed numerous charges against a Mt. Morris man.
Larry Ronald Huff II, 32, of 231 Little Shannon Run Road, was charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, agricultural trespasser on posted land, two counts of disorderly conduct and criminal trespass.
He was charged after police investigated the theft of trees from the property of Leonard George of Mt. Morris.
George told police that several trees had been cut down and removed from his property, along with downed trees, on or about May 3. George estimated the loss to be $200 in the form of firewood.
George contacted adjacent landowners who told him Huff had removed the trees, according to the criminal complaint. Police said Huff left George a phone message, admitting he had taken the trees and also confirmed this with police when he was interviewed about the theft.
Charges were filed Wednesday before Greene County Magisterial District Judge Louis Dayich. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Oct. 2 before Dayich.
