DEP studying oozing soil near Fox Chapel home

1 min read

FOX CHAPEL, Pa. (AP) — The state Department of Environmental Protection planned to return to a home near Pittsburgh that had to be evacuated after a dark liquid oozed from the home’s front yard accompanied by a natural gas smell.

Sunoco Logistics has an underground pipeline nearby, but the company and DEP officials say it wasn’t leaking or moving any petroleum products when the leak was reported about 5:30 p.m. Saturday in Fox Chapel.

DEP officials planned to return Monday to try to determine whether the liquid might be leaking from an abandoned well or underground storage tank.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the home was to remain evacuated until that was determined.
