Fumo talks political comeback in court deposition

1 min read

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Former state Sen. Vincent Fumo is considering a political comeback by running for an office with the Democratic State Committee

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Fumo made those comments in a sworn deposition filed this week in a lawsuit involving his former friend, New Jersey restaurateur Andrew Cosenza.

Fumo is suing, claiming Cosenza wrongly drained funds while chairing Fumo’s political campaign war chest.

The 70-year-old former lawmaker served four years in federal prison for a public corruption conviction, and returned in August to finish his sentence on house arrest in Philadelphia. Fumo’s sentence runs through February and his conviction bars him from public office.

But Fumo says in the deposition he wants to run for a state party post.

Fumo has said state prison rules keep him from speaking to reporters until his sentence ends.
