Board appointed to resolve construction project land dispute

1 min read

A Washington County judge appointed a three-person board of view in an attempt to resolve a dispute between a Route 19 property owner and the state Department of Transportation over the Valley Brook Road-Old Washington Road ramp construction project in Peters Township.

Stephen J. and Mary B. Szabo, who own a hair salon with adjacent parking at 3101 Washington Road, said in their petition to the court that PennDOT filed a declaration of taking for part of their property along with a temporary construction easement. The Szabos and PennDOT have been unable to agree on compensation for property taken for the road project, which resulted in the closure of Valley Brook Road at Route 19 in May, so they asked the court to appoint a board of view to perform this task.

Judge John DiSalle, in a court order Thursday, named Betsy McKnight, John Toth and John West to assess damages due to the Szabos.
