Greene County pleaders

WAYNESBURG – Several criminal defendants pleaded guilty Wednesday before Greene County Judge Farley Toothman. They included the following:

Joshua J. Maraney, 22, of 131 A. Alicia Main St., Greensboro; offenses – flight to avoid apprehension and a summary offense. Maraney was pulled over Feb. 1 in Cumberland Township on an outstanding warrant in West Virginia for a parole violation. Maraney attempted to flee on foot when police pulled him over; sentence – 11 days to one year with credit for time served, and $325 in fines, plus fees, and court costs. He was extradited to West Virginia for the parole violation.

Edward Clarence Shrader, 40, of 280 Dunn Station Road, Prosperity; offense – theft by unlawful taking. Police arrested Shrader after he admitted to being involved in the theft of a riding lawn mower, chain saws, smoker grill, bicycles, and various metal items from the residence of Stephanie Cox, 330 Strawn Hill Road in Wayne Township. The items were stolen July 5 and July 13. Cox told police she learned from R & B Recycling that Shrader had taken some of the items there for cash; sentence – two years probation, 90 hours community service, $300 in fines, plus fees and court costs.

Tony Michael Staggers, 35, of 655 Browns Creek Road, Sycamore; offenses – accident involving damage to attended property or vehicle and a summary violation. Staggers passed a tanker truck on a curve along Route 18 in Morris Township, struck the back of a second tanker truck and continued driving; sentence – one year probation, restitution of $631.48 to Quality Cares, $25 fine, plus fees and court costs.

John Allen Rable, 51, of 205 South Pine St., Carmichaels; offenses – driving under the influence, second offense, and a summary violation. Rable failed to change lanes when he was directed to do so by Cumberland Township Police officers who were conducting a traffic stop. An officer at the scene followed Rable and pulled him over. His blood-alcohol content was 0.246 percent. Sentencing is pending a presentence investigation.

Curtis Lee Chipps, 27, 548 Lake Lynn Road, Lake Lynn; offenses – three counts each of possession with intent to deliver, criminal use of a communications facility and possession of a controlled substance. Chipps sold marijuana April 23, May 10 and May 24 to an undercover agent for the Greene County Drug Task Force. The purchases took place at 653 Star Route 2011, Lot 3 in Dunkard Township. Chipps told police he acquired drugs from a Masontown residence; sentence – two years probation, 75 hours community service, $700 in restitution to the attorney general’s office, $300 in fines, plus fees and court costs.

Christine Marie Colina, 22, 363B Sherman Ave., Nemacolin; offenses – criminal trespass defiant trespass, retail theft, and harassment with physical contact. A charge of robbery by force was withdrawn. Colina was arrested Nov. 2 after taking a cellphone, battery and USB cable from the Walmart in Franklin Township. As she was confronted by store security Colina pushed past the security officer, Jacob Judy, and fled the store; sentence – 62 days in jail concurrent to a previous sentence, $300 in fines, plus fees and court costs. As a special condition of sentencing, Colina is not permitted to enter any Sams Club or Walmart Store location.

Michael Edward Phillips, 24, of 1530 Morris St., Waynesburg; offense – possession with intent to deliver; Phillips sold Subutex tablets to an undercover agent for the Greene County Drug Task Force Oct. 13, 2011, in the parking lot of the Waynesburg Giant Eagle Store on Sugar Run Road; sentence – 30 days to 23 ½ months in jail, $80 restitution to the attorney general’s office, $500 in fines, plus fees and court costs.
