Speers grandmother waives case

1 min read

A Speers grandmother accused of tying her 5-year-old grandson to a bedpost with plastic zip ties waived her case to Washington County Court last week.

Carmen Alexander, 45, of 253 Davidson Drive, was arrested last month by Charleroi Regional police. She waived charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, unlawful restraint and endangering the welfare of children Thursday before District Judge Larry Hopkins.

She was identified by police as the boy’s caretaker. The boy reportedly told police and Washington County Children and Youth Services workers that his grandmother had hit him in the hand with a hammer as punishment. She also allegedly tied him to the bedpost with the plastic ties.

Alexander remains free on $100,000 bond.
