Crews work to repair burst main in Pittsburgh

1 min read

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Officials said they were finishing repairs on a burst water main that caused road closures and traffic delays in downtown Pittsburgh Thursday.

A spokesman for the city’s Water and Sewer Authority said crews were expected to be done about 11 p.m. Thursday.

The 12-inch main broke about 4:30 a.m., and crews shut off the flow about two hours later.

Despite that, water continued to flow from the break area below Fort Pitt Boulevard onto Interstate 376, which runs parallel to the road but about 15 feet lower.

A spokeswoman for nearby Point Park University said one of its buildings sustained water damage in the basement.
