Library to host drilling program
CARMICHAELS – Flenniken Public Library will host “Exploring Marcellus Shale,” a neutral educational session on the hydraulic fracturing of shale, at 6 p.m. Jan. 14.
As an informational and educational program, both the pros and cons of the topic, from the environmental to the economic, will be explored. The session aims to provide or enhance knowledge of hydrofracturing of shale to extract natural gas so members of the audience can better understand what they read and hear about Marcellus Shale drilling, and to fashion more informed opinions on the topic.
“The recent release of the movie ‘Promised Land’ and the drilling activities in recent years have attracted and raised questions,” said Linda Orsted, the library’s director. “Part of our basic literacy mission is to provide current and accurate information to the community. We believe this program will be valuable to everyone who wants to understand more about the science and technology of this industry.”
