Trooper stabbed with scissors shoots man

1 min read

MOUNT PLEASANT, Pa. (AP) — A witness says a state trooper fatally shot a man after the man stabbed the officer with scissors when police confronted him for shoplifting at a southwestern Pennsylvania shopping plaza.

Shopper Joyce Gales, of Connellsville, said that a cashier at the Save-a-Lot store in East Huntingdon Township called police when the man began eating and drinking snacks without paying.

When troopers arrived, the man stabbed one in the head with scissors and several shots were fired as the incident spilled into the parking lot of the Crossroads Plaza along U.S. Route 119, about 35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

Police have yet to detail the incident but have confirmed a trooper fatally shot an assailant at that location before 9:30 a.m. Friday.

A police spokesman says the injured trooper will likely require stitches.
