Turnpike tolls to increase Sunday
Cash-paying motorists traveling Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission roadways, including the Mon-Fayette Expressway and Southern Beltway, will be charged higher tolls beginning Sunday.
The commission is raising the tolls 10 percent for cash customers and 2 percent for those using the E-ZPass automatic toll-collection system, said commission spokeswoman Renee Vid Colborn.
“Those using E-ZPass will be seeing an increase of a penny here, a penny there,” Colborn said Friday.
For instance, a motorist using auto-pay to travel through the expressway’s California toll plaza will be charged $1.02, an increase of 2 cents, she said. Cash-paying customers there will see tolls rise by 15 cents to $1.40.
Meanwhile, the beltway tolls on the Findlay Connector from Pittsburgh International Airport to Route 22 in Washington County will increase for auto-pay users from 50 cents to 53 cents and from 50 cents to 75 cents for cash customers.
The increase in price is expected to generate $25 million this year, money that will be used to meet state transportation obligations and reconstruct the turnpike, the commission indicated in a news release.
