9-year fugitive nabbed in Washington County

2 min read

Life on the run came to a halt Friday morning for a former Centerville man when he was nabbed by deputies in Washington County sheriff’s fugitive unit, who found him hiding in a Fayette County home.

Scott A. Garlow, 39, is now in the Washington County jail. He was wanted on several bench warrants for failure to appear on several cases dating to 1999, said Deputy Frank Konek Sr. He also was wanted on warrants from the offices of district judges Curtis Thompson and Mark Wilson.

“We had been looking for him for more than nine years,” Konek said Friday. “We got a tip this morning that he was at a home in Dunbar.”

With assistance from state police in Uniontown, the deputies went to the home of Garlow’s girlfriend, where they found him hiding under a bed.

“At the time of his arrests, he was giving his grandmother’s address on Vesta 7 Road in Brownsville,” Konek said. “He told us he had been running. He claims that he was living on the streets, even staying in woods.

“He knew he had the charges so he made it a point of staying away,” the deputy added. “Even his parents didn’t know where he was.”

Garlow told deputies he had been living with his girlfriend for several years.

After seeming to disappear, Garlow’s name popped up when he purchased a vehicle in his name earlier this week.

The charges that Garlow had been wanted on range from unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under suspension DUI-related and leaving the scene of an accident. The warrants were issued by county judges for failure to appear in court.

Garlow was arraigned Friday before District Judge Curtis Thompson on bad check charges. Thompson set bond at $5,000. Garlow will be arraigned on DUI and related charges from Wilson’s office at a later date.
