Canonsburg police to charge two teenagers
A 15-year-old Canonsburg girl and 16-year-old Muse boy face charges after allegedly stealing candy and other items from a Canonsburg discount store and then running when they were spotted by borough police.
Canonsburg police were called Friday to Dollar General, 145 Adams Ave., by store employees who suspected two teens in the store had stolen items.
The girl, who reportedly had an Angry Birds backpack, was suspected of stealing items in the past from the store, police said.
A short time later, police were at McDonald’s on Bobby Vinton Boulevard when they saw two teens inside the restaurant matching a description of those who had been at the Dollar General.
When the teens saw police, they fled the restaurant, running over the hill and into the parking lot of the Wendy’s restaurant on Cavasina Drive where Sgt. Don Cross nabbed the girl.
The 16-year-old ran behind an adjacent plaza, being chased by Officer James Eckels. Eckels, along with officers from North Strabane and Cecil townships, checked the area and eventually found the teen hiding in ductwork behind the Hogfather’s restaurant.
Police also found the Angry Birds backpack. Inside were candy and snacks, suspected of being stolen from the store.
The two will be charged at a later date by police in a juvenile allegation with retail theft, resisting arrest, flight to avoid apprehension and criminal conspiracy. They were released to relatives.
