Donora man charged in gift shop burglary
A Donora man was charged Monday with the June 3 burglary of a Charleroi gift shop.
Charges of burglary and criminal mischief were filed against Lang Alan Woytovich, 22, of 735 Thompson Ave., at the office of District Judge Larry Hopkins.
Charleroi Regional police Officer Michael Kresich was on patrol about 1:30 a.m. when he noticed the glass broken in the front door at Orange’s Gift Department Store, 506 Fallowfield Ave.
Kresich found a glass display case broken and several items that had been inside the case on the floor. Blood was found on the display case.
A gold earring or pin with a tag bearing the store’s name was found at the intersection of Fallowfield and Fifth Street. The jewelry also had blood on it.
Police reviewed surveillance video from the store. It showed a black man using a rock and orange safety cone to break out the glass. The man, later identified as Woytovich, is seen briefly entering the store and leaving with an item.
On Sunday, Kresich interviewed Woytovich. The Donora man told police that he was too intoxicated that night to remember anything. But when Woytovich woke up the following morning, he was bleeding from a cut on his right hand.
A preliminary hearing will be scheduled before Hopkins at a later date.
