Hospital lists top baby names of 2012
Braden, meet Lily. You’re going to be seeing a lot of each other in years to come.
Braden and Lily are Washington Hospital’s most popular baby names in 2012 for boys and girls, respectively.
Taking into account variations in spelling, and in Lily’s case, incorporating Lillians and Lilliannes, there will be a lot of little Lils toddling around pretty soon, and they’re going to be bumping into a bunch of Bradens, sometimes spelled Bradydon, Brayden or Braiden.
Among boys, Braden was followed closely by Logan, Owen and Liam.
Rounding out the top names for newborn boys at Washington Hospital were Hunter, Landon and Michael. There was a tie for the remainder of the top names list among Aiden, Colton, Nicholas and Mason.
Following Lily and Lilly were Emma, Isabella, Riley, Abigail, Olivia, Bentley, Aubrey and a tie among Emily, Bailey and Addison. (Sounding similar to Olivia was the name Alivia, and if the Alivias were included, it would put Olivia higher on the list.)
“This list was compiled from official birth registrations,” wrote Washington Hospital spokeswoman Jamie Ivanac in response to an email inquiry. “People don’t have to register a first name before they leave the hospital.”
Which explains why one infant, on the hospital’s spreadsheet, was listed as “Baby Girl” and another was called, simply, “S.”
The hospital’s master list of first names includes 1,013 babies born there last year.
