Charged in crash: Kevin Kavanaugh, 58, of Coal Center, was charged Monday by California police in connection with a two-vehicle crash Nov. 29 at Pike Run and California drives. Kavanaugh was taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital, where blood was drawn. Police said charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of a crash and traffic violations will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Joshua Kanalis.
Arrested on warrant: Ronald S. McNavish, 31, of Lansdale, Montgomery County, was taken into custody by Canonsburg police after it was discovered he was wanted on an outstanding warrant in that county. Police were called about 6:15 p.m. Sunday for a report of a man running in the 100 block of West Pike Street carrying a red purse. Police said they found him, intoxicated, sitting on a porch at 145 W. Pike. The owner of the purse, Misty Waters, did not want to press charges. Police ran a check and learned he was wanted. McNavish was placed in the Washington County jail pending extradition to Montgomery County.
Gun, GPS stolen: Jason Strinisha of 400 East St. told Canonsburg police Sunday that a global-positioning unit and Walther .40-caliber handgun were stolen from his unlocked car earlier this month.
Grandson faces charges: A 17-year-old Canonsburg boy faces a theft charge in a juvenile allegation for allegedly stealing a 2004 Honda sedan Saturday. The car is owned by his grandfather, Melvin Hagan, of 143 W. College St., Canonsburg police said.
Teen charged: A 17-year-old Valley View Terrace boy will be charged with two counts of harassment by Canonsburg police following an altercation Saturday with Kenneth Morton, 51, at their home at 112 Valley View Terrace.
Teen runs away: Sam Kasmarik, 14, of 209 S. Central Ave., reportedly ran away Saturday while on a visit to his home, Canonsburg police said. He allegedly sent a text to his brother indicating he did not want to return to his foster home. The boy is 5 feet, 7 inches tall with blonde hair and brown eyes.
Salt stolen: Michael W. Maron of 249 E. College St. told Canonsburg police Saturday that rock salt and calcium chloride were stolen from his garage.
Cash, drinks stolen: Canonsburg police said about $50 and soft drinks were stolen Saturday from a vending machine at Snowy White Laundry, 154 W. Pike St.
Assault arrest: Mario Antonio Solateo, 44, of 607 Thompson Ave., Donora, was arrested Friday by Donora police after he allegedly hit Wanda Minnie in the face, chest and shoulder and kicked holes in her closet doors. He was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis on charges of simple assault and criminal mischief. He was placed in the Washington County jail on $10,000 bond.
Charged in assault: Michael Cialone, 25, of 10 Virginia Drive, Donora, was arraigned Friday on a charge of simple assault for allegedly assaulting his aunt, Ruth Cialone, on Christmas Day. Donora police said she reportedly fell back after he struck her and hit her head on the basement floor. She was taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital for treatment. Michael Cialone was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis and released on $2,500 unsecured bond.
Two-vehicle crash: Robert Rice, 36, of Clarksville, was slightly injured Thursday when he pulled his vehicle into the path of a vehicle driven by Jacqueline Brown of Fredericktown at Crawford Road and Lawrence Avenue, East Bethlehem, state police said. He will be cited for a stop sign violation.
Charged in burglary: Thomas Santi Russo, 21, of 616 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, was arrested Friday by state police for allegedly burglarizing the home of Santi Russo, 17 Daily Road, Fallowfield. He allegedly forced open the door to the home and stole $100 in silver coins and $200 in costume jewelry. A neighbor told police of seeing him climbing over the porch rail of the home. Anna Turner, who also lives in the burglarized home, said she saw him overturn a chair and knock over items in the living room. He left when she questioned what he was doing, police said. He was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis on charges of burglary, criminal trespass, receiving stolen property, theft and criminal mischief. He was placed in the Washington County jail on $2,000 bond.
Faces drug charges: Martha A. Svitek, 33, of Washington, faces drug charges after state police said they found suspected heroin and drug paraphernalia in her vehicle while investigating a hit-and-run crash Sunday afternoon on Interstate 376 near the McClaren Road exit. Police found no vehicle but learned the registration came back to a rental car. Police went to Pittsburgh International Airport and found the vehicles involved. Svitek had rented the vehicle but was not driving it. The rental car manager found suspected marijuana residue in the car. Police asked Svitek for permission to search her personal vehicle and said they found the suspected drugs. Charges will be filed at the office of District Judge Anthony Saveikis.
Father, daughter face charges: A Houston father and daughter face charges after allegedly assaulting each other at their home at 211 Crawford St. on Sunday. Julie Lynn Maynard, 28, is accused of pushing her father, Mark Maynard, down steps, state police said. He reportedly suffered a cut on his head and was taken to Washington Hospital. He is accused of grabbing her by the arm. Police said she also fell down the steps. She suffered a bloody nose. She was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis on charges of simple assault and harassment, and was placed in the Washington County jail on $3,000 bond. Her father will be arraigned later.
Woman assaulted: Eric Daniel Bruno, 35, of 815 Maple Ave., New Eagle, was arrested early Monday by Monongahela police after he allegedly head-butted Michele Maize, punched her in the head and ripped her hair out. He reportedly followed her vehicle and kicked in the windshield and also allegedly broke her bathroom mirror. Bruno was arraigned before District Judge Joshua Kanalis on charges of simple assault, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and harassment. He was placed in the Washington County jail on $25,000 bond.
Charges filed: A Triadelphia, W.Va., woman faces charges of driving while under the influence of two controlled substances and careless driving after a blood test revealed she had two types of medication to treat insomnia in her system at the time of an accident. Police said Julie Ann Johnson, 46, struck the rear of a vehicle operated by Anthony N. Howard of Jefferson as he was attempting to merge onto West Chestnut Street from the Interstate 70 eastbound ramp Dec.19. As both drivers pulled into a nearby service station to exchange information, Howard noticed that Johnson appeared to be intoxicated and called 911. Police said she was slurring her speech and had delayed motor skills. A laboratory analysis revealed the presence of the medications, and charges were filed Monday at the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
One injured: A Belle Vernon woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 6:12 p.m. Saturday on Washington Road at Waterdam Plaza Drive, township police said. Jodi Lynn Orawiec, 39, of 127 Simmons Lane, was treated at Canonsburg General Hospital and released after complaining of head and neck pain, according to a hospital spokeswoman. A vehicle driven by Joseph Cafaro, 54, of 52 Lamson Circle, Upper St. Clair, was unable to stop before colliding with a stopped vehicle operated by Christopher M. Orawiec, 38, also of Simmons Lane, Belle Vernon, police said. Both vehicles were southbound. Jodi Lynn Orawiec was a passenger in the Orawiec vehicle. No one else was injured, police said.
Fire cause undetermined: A state police fire marshal has not been able to find a cause for a Jan. 9 fire that did $15,000 in damage to a house trailer occupied by Robert Roupe Jr., 120 Sturge Hollow Road, South Franklin. South Franklin firefighters were assisted by crews from Morris and Amwell townships.
Faces DUI charge: Daniel Wilhelm Jr., 45, of Monongahela, faces a charge of DUI after he was stopped by state police Saturday on Interstate 79 southbound near the Meadow Lands exit. Police said he had been involved in a hit-and-run crash on a road covered by state police from the Pittsburgh station.
Two injured: Geraldine Checonsky, 76, of 107 Norman St., Houston, and Kylie Cummins, 21, of 39 Poverty Point Road, Claysville, were injured Friday when a vehicle driven by Checonsky pulled from Aldi’s, Trinity Point, into the path of Cummins’ vehicle, South Strabane police said. Both women were taken to Washington Hospital for treatment.
Fraud reported: Catherine McClelland of 364 Clearfield Ave. told South Strabane police Friday that a Kohl’s credit card was opened in her name without her permission. A forged check from her account also was cashed last month.
