Independence Township breathes new life into park project
Independence Township supervisors revisited the creation of a town park that has been on the back burner for almost four decades. The board heard representatives from Pashek Associates pitch their services during a meeting Wednesday night.
Supervisor Melinda Latynski said the idea to put a park on a 38-acre plot of land on Independence Road between Avella Heights and Avella Highlands originally came about in the 1970s, but was never followed up because of a lack of funding. The recent discussion on the project occurred during a non-voting workshop. Supervisors will vote on whether to approve hiring Pashek during their next board meeting at 6 p.m. Feb. 20.
If approved, Latynski said the firm would begin creating a master plan that would include designs for the park, which would include a new ballpark, and outline potential grants, cost projections and possible revenue from timber sales.
