Home invasion and robbery might be related, police say
State police are trying to determine whether a home invasion Tuesday morning at a Canton Township mobile home park is connected to an armed robbery the previous night at a convenience store about a mile away.
Linda Garner answered a knock at the door of her home at 462 Brad Ave., in the Town and Country Mobile Home Park, at 10:55 a.m. Tuesday. Two white men, believed to be in their teens, entered. One of them grabbed Garner, forced her into a chair and demanded money. He told her he had a gun and would use it, but no weapon was seen, police said.
Garner told the robbers she only had money in her vehicle. One teen demanded the keys to her vehicle. While the second teen stayed with Garner, the other went out to her vehicle and retrieved $300. They then both left, discarding her keys.
Two refuse workers in the area told police they heard a commotion in front of Garner’s home and saw two people running from the residence. The two suspects went through the woods toward Route 844, but the workers then lost sight of them.
Both of the teens wore hooded sweatshirts that were pulled tightly around their faces. One also wore a white bandana across his face. The teens also wore blue jeans and gloves.
State police Trooper Thomas Kress said Garner was not injured in the robbery.
Kress said police are looking into the possibility there is a connection with a robbery just after 11 p.m. Monday at Isaly’s, 2400 Jefferson Ave., Canton. The robbers were described as two men in their late teens. One wielded a black metal baseball bat with white and pink graphics on it. The other had a fillet knife.
The teen armed with the knife jumped over the counter and grabbed the money tray from the cash register. The other stuffed cash into his black hooded shirt and pants pocket. The two then left the store on foot.
Anyone with information on either robbery is asked to call state police at 724-223-5200.
