Couple charged after Pittsburgh SWAT standoff

1 min read

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Pittsburgh police say a 29-year-old man and his girlfriend have been charged with marijuana possession after their argument resulted in a report the woman was being held against her will, prompting a SWAT standoff.

Online court records don’t list attorneys for Matthew Medley and 25-year-old Heidi Ekas.

Police were called shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday after the couple argued and a friend called 911 to report a possible weapon in the house.

Police say Medley had hit the woman and, at first, refused to let the woman leave, so he’s charged with simple assault and unlawful restraint. Both also are charged with possessing a small amount of marijuana.

Medley surrendered about 5 a.m. Two other men in the house were taken into custody but released after police determined they weren’t involved in illegal behavior.
