Elderly man dies in Fallowfield reservoir

1 min read

An elderly Mon Valley man was pronounced dead early this morning after his body was pulled from a reservoir in Fallowfield Township.

Washington County Coroner Tim Warco says 87-year-old Samuel V. Vignoli of Marion Street, New Eagle, was cutting grass Wednesday afternoon in the reservoir area of the former Maple Creek Mine property off Route 917 when the Bobcat he was operating went down a steep embankment and into the water. Following a search, Vignoli’s body was found in the reservoir about midnight last night.

The cause and manner of death are undetermined, pending an autopsy. State police are investigating.

Assisting at the scene were the Fallowfield Township and Valley Inn fire departments, the Peters Township, North Strabane Township, East Bethlehem Township and Greensburg dive teams, and the Fort Cherry and Tri-Community ambulance services.
