STATE COLLEGE (AP) – Police say a man was shot in the hand after his gun fell out of its holster while he hurried across a parking lot to avoid holding up traffic outside a Wal-Mart in central Pennsylvania.

The Centre Daily Times reports the 45-year-old man was shot outside the Wal-Mart in Patton Township on Tuesday afternoon. He was treated at a hospital and his name has not been released.

Police say the gun was in its holster as the man hurried across the lot to avoid holding up traffic. The gun fell out and hit the ground as he ran. He went to pick it up and was shifting bags in his hands when the gun went off, hitting him.

The bullet then hit the pavement; no one else was hurt.
