New board members join Greene Academy
CARMICHAELS – The Greene Academy of Art board of directors welcomed five new members who were unanimously elected at the May meeting. They are Charles Bradmon, Karen Bradmon, Marvin McGallicher, Edna McGallicher and Tammy Cree Christopher, who rejoined the board after several years off.
Thelma Callaghan, who has served the board for many years as secretary and historian, as well as handling various publicity projects, was unanimously elected director emeritus.
Other board members whose resignations were accepted with regret due to moving out of the state were Nancy Reynolds, president, who also was responsible for flyers regarding special events; Pete Reynolds, who handled the Covered Bridge Festival for many years; and Brice Hartley, who worked on any project assigned to him. This trio will be greatly missed.
Officers elected in June were Bob English, president; Bill Cole, vice president; JoAnn Kline, secretary; and Carole Gideon, treasurer.
Cole reported that he conducted a tour of the Academy and Ed Chess conducted a tour of the covered bridge for first graders from the Carmichaels Area Elementary School. Each student was given a key chain of their choice (Academy or Bridge).
Brice Blaker reported that the patio needs to be sealed, the back exterior trim of the building needs the wood replaced and painted and some areas of brick need to be repointed.
Alan Vozel reported that the Hartley Inn and the Chuck Wagon will be serving food at the Covered Bridge Festival. The committee is still looking for a face painter.
English reported that the antique piano should be tuned and kept. Anyone interested in giving piano lessons or performing a recital at the Academy may do so for free. If interested call 724-966-2731 and leave a message.
The board approved requests for donations from the Carmichaels-Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department toward a new pumper truck, and from the Friends of the Flenniken Library for their golf outing.
